How Manager Scoring Works

Managers earn a Manager Score for each initiative they own. The score rewards both efficient point dispensing throughout the initiative's lifecycle and successful completion.

Score Components

Your Manager Score for each initiative is the sum of two components:

Component Formula When It's Calculated
Dispensing Score total dispensed × efficiency ratio Updates after each checkpoint (running total)
Completion Bonus calibrated points × tier multiplier Awarded when Admin assigns a completion tier

Efficiency Ratio

The efficiency ratio measures how effectively you utilized the initiative's point budget:

Efficiency = min(Total Dispensed / Calibrated Points, 1.0)

This means:

Why efficiency matters: The efficiency ratio incentivizes thorough point utilization. A manager who completes an initiative but only dispenses 30% of the budget receives a lower dispensing score than one who dispenses 95%. This encourages managers to recognize contributor work at every checkpoint.

Completion Tiers

When you submit a completion request, an Admin reviews the initiative and assigns one of three tiers:

Tier Multiplier Meaning Example (200 pt initiative)
Full 3.0× All success criteria met, initiative fully delivered 200 × 3.0 = 600 pts bonus
Partial 1.5× Some criteria met, partially delivered 200 × 1.5 = 300 pts bonus
Incomplete 0.5× Minimal criteria met, significant gaps 200 × 0.5 = 100 pts bonus

Tier multipliers are configurable by Admins in Settings.

IC Bonus Points

When submitting a completion request, Managers can propose IC bonus points to reward exceptional contributor performance. The reviewing Admin can also award their own bonus pool independently.

Bonus Source Who Proposes Who Approves Cap
Manager Bonus Initiative Owner (Manager) Admin reviews during completion 50% of calibrated points (configurable)
Admin Bonus Reviewing Admin Self-approved 50% of calibrated points (configurable)

How it works:

  1. Manager submits a completion request and optionally specifies bonus amounts per contributor
  2. Admin reviews the request, assigns a completion tier, and can accept, modify, or ignore the manager's proposed bonuses
  3. Admin can also add their own bonus pool on top of (or instead of) the manager's proposal
  4. Bonus points are distributed to individual contributors and added to their pointsAwarded
Important: IC bonus points are excluded from Manager Score calculations. They reward contributors directly without inflating the manager's own score. Each bonus pool (manager and admin) is independently capped at 50% of calibrated points.

Worked Example

Suppose you own an initiative with 200 calibrated points:

Event Dispensed Total Efficiency Dispensing Score
Checkpoint 1: dispense 60 pts 60 60/200 = 0.30 60 × 0.30 = 18
Checkpoint 2: dispense 80 pts 140 140/200 = 0.70 140 × 0.70 = 98
Completion: remaining 60 pts distributed 200 200/200 = 1.00 200 × 1.00 = 200

Admin assigns Full tier:

If the same initiative received Partial tier instead:

Contributor Score

Managers can also earn a Contributor Score by being assigned as contributors on other managers' initiatives. This works exactly like IC scoring — you receive points based on your allocation percentage when checkpoints are dispensed.

Important: You cannot be a contributor on initiatives you own. The owner-exclusion rule prevents conflict of interest — since you dispense points, you cannot also be a recipient on your own initiative.

Manager Leaderboard

The Manager Leaderboard at /oli/leaderboard/managers ranks all managers by their total Manager Score. It shows:

Ranking is by Manager Score (descending), with Contributor Score as a tie-breaker.
